Acne

Unfortunately, acne is not only located on the face but can also develop on the back. Because acne develops where the most sebaceous glands are located, it can also occur on the chest, shoulders, neck and neck.

What treatments can be used for the back?

There are several ways to address acne on the back. The treatment depends on the severity of the acne. Treatments such as medical peels or derma pen can treat acne and/or acne scars on the back.

Treatment with a peel

We advise you to start with peels when you suffer from active inflammation. Think of a medical peel, TCA peel or bio peel. Depending on the severity of the acne, the practitioner will choose the right peel to target the indication. The peeling causes accelerated skin exfoliation, allowing sebum to exit quickly and preventing inflammation. In addition, the peel penetrates deep into the skin, where it dissolves sebum.

How should I prepare for the back treatment?

  • Avoid sun and tanning beds for four weeks before treatment.
  • Stop using an exfoliant, retinol (vitamin A cream), hormone ointment, and hydroquinone three to seven days before treatment.
  • Avoid other treatments two to four weeks before treatment, such as strong chemical peels, micro-needling and CO2 laser.
  • In case of symptoms such as fever or flu, you will not be treated.
  • The treatment cannot be performed if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

How does the treatment work?

Peeling:

The skin is thoroughly cleansed and disinfected. After that, the peel suitable for your skin is applied. You might feel stinging and warmth while the chemical solution is on your skin. Depending on the strength of the peeling, this sensation may vary. After a few minutes, a neutralizing solution will be applied, and the peel will be washed off your skin. A soothing mask is used to calm the skin.

Dermapen:

Before the treatment, we thoroughly clean and disinfect the skin. After your skin is cleansed, we apply a serum that suits your skin and start with the procedure. You may experience discomfort during the treatment.

Hoe gaat de behandeling in zijn werk?

Peeling:

Possible skin reaction after treatment

Immediately after treatment, the skin is red, and swelling may occur. The skin may also feel tight. Redness usually disappears within 24-72 hours. Healing is accompanied by light scaling and scabs. However, this varies from skin to skin. The skin recovers within 5-14 days.

Aftercare

  • For the first 24 hours after treatment, do not do anything to the skin, and do not wash or apply cream unless otherwise advised.
  • For the first 48 hours, you should avoid heat sources such as saunas, swimming pools and intense exercise.
  • Do not use scrubs and peels for the first two weeks after treatment.
  • For the first three to seven days, do not use intensive, exfoliating products with acids, such as glycolic acid and salicylic acid; do not use retinol and hydroquinone.
  • You should not scratch/pull at the scabs and/or peels.
  • After treatment, it is essential to care for the skin with a restorative cream, such as Alhydran, to promote healing and allow the skin to heal more beautifully. Alhydran can be applied two to three times daily and can be purchased at the clinic.
  • During the treatment process, it is important to avoid direct sunlight on the skin and tanning beds. It is essential to use daily sun protection with at least SPF50.
