Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the skin, storing a large amount of moisture and promoting collagen. As a result, this acid is at the core of a youthful appearance. As we age, we lose our hyaluronic acid, making skin appear dull and saggy. By the age of 30, you start losing around 1% of hyaluronic acid stores within the body every year.

The main component of a skin booster is hyaluronic acid. By restoring hyaluronic acid to the skin’s dermis, the appearance and feel of the skin are revitalized by plumping it up and restoring the moisture that has been lost. By additionally promoting collagen production, the skin’s elasticity and firmness are restored to make your skin feel youthful.

We have different types of skin booster with different ingredients, of which hyaluronic acid is the main ingredient.

What is a skin booster?

Skin boosters are injectables that improve skin texture, elasticity, hydration and overall appearance. Treatment involves injecting hyaluronic acid and active ingredients such as antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, peptides and amino acids that repair, nourish, plump and stimulate the skin. Rather than providing volume, as a filler does, it provides hydration. The skin will become less dry and will look radiant again.

What can a skin booster be used for?

  • Dry skin
  • Dehydrated skin
  • Dull skin
  • Fine lines

What to consider before treatment

  • Avoid sun and tanning beds for four weeks before treatment.
  • Stop using an exfoliant, retinol (vitamin A cream), hormone ointment, and hydroquinone three to seven days before treatment.
  • Stop taking blood thinners seven days before treatment (consult with your doctor if this is possible).
  • If you suffer from an active cold sore, you should not be treated and should wait until the cold sore is completely healed.
  • Botox and/or filler treatments may be performed up to two weeks before treatment.
  • Avoid facial treatments two to four weeks before treatment, such as strong chemical peels, micro-needling and CO2 laser
  • In case of symptoms such as fever or flu, you will not be treated.
  • The treatment cannot be performed if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

How does the treatment work?

The skin is thoroughly cleansed and disinfected. Next, the skin booster is injected into the skin with an intradermal injector. You can feel a little discomfort, but the procedure is well tolerated by most individuals.

For optimal results, two sessions are advised at 4-week intervals. The skin needs time to produce collagen and elastin so that you will see the result about four to six weeks after each session. Treatment results can last for a few months. We recommend repeating the treatment once every six months to maintain lasting results.

Possible skin reaction after treatment

Immediately after treatment, your skin may be red and swollen; this generally disappears within a few hours. Bruises are not always avoidable. Generally, these are quickly drained and will not be seen for more than 2-3 days.

Aftercare

  • For the first 24 hours after treatment, do not do anything to the skin, and do not wash or apply cream unless otherwise advised.
  • For the first 48 hours, you should avoid heat sources such as saunas, swimming pools and intense exercise.
  • You should not wear makeup for the first 48 hours after treatment. Medical makeup, such as Oxygenetix, may be allowed if necessary.
  • Sleep on a clean pillowcase every other day.
  • Do not use scrubs and peels for the first two weeks after treatment.
  • For the first three to seven days, do not use intensive, exfoliating products with acids such as glycolic acid and salicylic acid; do not use retinol and hydroquinone.
  • You should not scratch/pull at the scabs and/or peels.
  • After treatment, it is essential to care for the skin with a restorative cream, such as Alhydran, to promote healing and allow the skin to heal more beautifully. Alhydran can be applied two to three times daily and can be purchased at the clinic.
  • During the treatment process, avoiding direct sunlight on the skin and tanning beds is crucial. It is essential to use daily sun protection with at least SPF50.
